Development of new easy-open lids for lighter containers using advanced material simulation models and shaping processes

Our R&D team is working in the development of new easy-opening lids for cans. Advanced materials’ simulation and sheet metal forming processes allow these cans to use less raw material, making the final product lighter.

To obtain a more sustainable lid and can that can reduce the use of raw material in a meaningful way, advanced numerical models of the material are being developed, as well as progressive forming processes that allow for simulation of the manufacturing process and functionality of the easy-opening lid. The goal is to develop a complete model that includes material failure-mode characterization and progressive forming process simulation. As a result, an advanced tool will be obtained that will allow for advanced numerical simulation of the easy-opening lid functionality (sterilization and opening).
